About the Jam

The North Street Cabaret Jazz Jam is a welcoming, artist-run space to play, listen to, and explore jazz in all its forms. Each month, musicians of all backgrounds come together to share standards, originals, and spontaneous ideas—while listeners enjoy great music, drinks, and community.

This jam lives where many of Feestet’s members first met, back when North Street Cabaret hosted the beloved New Breed Jazz Jam. We’re honored to continue that 20-year legacy's open-hearted approach.

Come to play. Come to listen. Come to shake off the Sunday scaries a little and still be home at a reasonable hour.  <3

How the Night Flows

7:00 PM – House Band & Signups
Feestet opens the night and gets the room warmed up. The signup sheet starts circulating.

8:00 PM – Jam Begins
The jam kicks off in earnest—expect standards, originals, experiments, and the occasional surprise. This is where new ideas are tested and new collaborations begin.

Any Instrument, Any Style

All instruments are welcome—horns, strings, voices, rhythm section staples, and the unexpected. The venue provides a drum kit, piano, and a bass amp, so you don’t need to haul heavy gear.

Charts, Calls, or Pure Improv

Call a tune you love. Bring charts if you have them. Prefer to jump in and improvise? Perfect. We embrace both structure and spontaneity.

All Jazz (and Jazz-Adjacent) Styles

Straight-ahead, ECM-inspired textures, hard bop, bossa, funk, R&B, folk, hip-hop influences—if it connects to jazz or Black American musical traditions, it belongs here.

You don’t have to play to belong here.

Grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy an ever-changing night of live jazz—sometimes familiar, sometimes unexpected, always human. Bring friends, meet new ones, and experience Madison’s jazz community up close.
